The Florida Senate removed controversial provisions Thursday from a bill on the distribution of water from Lake Okeechobee, backing down from a fight with environmentalists and Gov. Ron DeSantis, reports our Sun-Sentinel partners. The bill (SB 2508) would have originally helped sugar growers and city water utilities at the expense of the Everglades and coastal communities by requiring state state water managers to take steps to hold the lake’s water level higher.
